Sophie Mercer thought being a teenage witch meant flying broomsticks, talking cats, and awesome spells. Instead, her mom still makes her ride the bus, she’s allergic to pet dander, and the one big spell she attempts at prom goes seriously bad-like, Carrie-levels of bad. As a result, Sophie is shipped off to Prentiss Academy, a boarding school for Witches, Shapeshifters, and Faeries. At Prentiss, Sophie discovers that the traumas of regular school have nothing on the goings-on at “Freak High,” what with the trio of Dark Witches who want Sophie to join their coven, her futile crush on Prentiss’s hottest Warlock, and her roommate, Jenna, who just happens to be Prentiss’s only Vampire.  When members of Sophie’s coven are attacked, she finds herself trying to exonerate Jenna and solve the mystery, which might be more connected to Sophie than she ever could have guessed.

About the Author

Rachel Hawkins
Rachel Hawkins was born in Virginia and raised in Alabama, which means she uses funny words like “fixin’” and “y’all.” After graduating from Auburn University, she succumbed to the lure of Summers Off and became a high school English teacher. Four years of forcing students to memorize the first twelve lines of The Canterbury Tales finally broke her, and in 2007, she quit teaching to pursue writing full time. When not writing, Rachel enjoys dyeing her hair various shades of red and spending time with her husband and son.  Read more about how to book or contact Rachel Hawkins.

WHOA WHOA WHOA!!!! HOLD UP! Have you even READ the book??? 1. this is the book Hex Hall you’re describing, NOT Demonglass which is the second one coming out. 2. it is Not Prentiss or whatever, it is HECATE HALL!! plus Sophie never thought it witch craft was about flyin on broom sticks or talking cats! it never says that!!! and it never said her mom made her take the bus and crap like that, mostly cuz she didnt come into her powers until age 12! Then she started to use them and they had to keep moving around! Then she did a big love spell that went wrong and got sent to Hecate Hall, nicknamed HEX HALL! there was no carrie-level bad spell that sent her there. when she told people how she got in there no one was impressed really. I have read this book twice and i lovee it! you do also know that she never wanted to join their coven but they bonded her to them without her knowledge or permission? so when you say “members of her coven” which is technically true, but you make it sound like she wants to be in it. OK PEOPLE READING THIS SUMMERY DONT LISTEN TO THIS READ THE BOOK!!

What is with the black in the backround of the covers? I mean the pond was in the story with the skirt, the changed reflection the demon blood necklace and even the green dress but where does the cat fit in?

This book was amazing!! I just finished reading it even though I just got it a couple hours ago! Usually when an author writes something funny, I only smile. But Rachel Hawkins sense of humor made me burst out laughing! It’s easily one of the best books I’ve ever read! I never read a book twice because I don’t like knowing what’s going to happen before I read it, but I could read Hex Hall 10 times and never get tired of it! I simply LOVED how Rachel showed the nice side of Sophia’s enemy, Elodie! This book left me laughing hysterically, made me cry out in anger, made my jaw drop in shock, and left tears in my eye! It’s the perfect read!!!
